Superheroes for Kids Week: Batman: The Brave and the Bold

Batman: The Brave and the Bold is a Cartoon Network series for younger kids. It doesn’t feature continuing storylines or even our hero’s alter egos (for the most part). It is a simple and fun story with good guys and bad guys. The teaser usually has one (or two heroes) with the main story featuring a different hero to team with Batman. It’s is closer to the modern comic book mythology (using the new Blue Beetle for instance), but will occasionally use older characters.

The easy and fun stories are great for kids and parents alike. Batman is the major hero and a lot of the stories revolve around him fighting the bad guys with the help of a rotating bunch of heroes. Generally the visiting hero and villain match up (such as Aquaman and Black Mantis) with few heroes being repeated so far (Aquaman and Blue Beetle are favorites). And there are fun call backs for the parents to see even as the show exists for kids.

When Batman teamed up with Robin, there were a lot of call backs to the Adam West Batman show. The JSA episode featured Batman as a junior hero role for a change and other episodes with Blue Beetle feature Batman mentoring a younger hero. The villains and the plot are fun and age appropriate for 4-8 year old kids.
