As long time readers of the blog might remember, even though Alastair Reynolds is one of my favorite writers, I was less than enamored with his last book (Terminal World). So I approached Reynolds new book (Blue Remembered Earth) with some trepidation as to whether I would like it. And, to cut off all suspense, I did enjoy it quite a bit. Which is good, since it’s the first book in a trilogy. And this is probably the closest to current time that Reynolds has set a book (the alternate world in Century Rain notwithstanding). So, let’s check out the first volume of the Poseidon’s Children trilogy.

Alastair Reynolds Troika
Alastair Reynolds is one of my favorite writers (even though I wasn’t fond of his last book Terminal World), so I was excited to see he had written a novella called Trokia. The story is a simple one with a man and a woman discussing past events. But it quickly becomes clear that both of them have had issues in the past and the remembrances and story might not be what they think it is. So, let’s go visit some Russians.
Alastair Reynolds is writing a Dr. Who novel
From Reynold’s blog:
And I’m now pleased to announce that in 2013, in the fiftieth anniversary year of Doctor Who, BBC Books/Ebury will be publishing HARVEST OF TIME, an original science fiction novel featuring the Third Doctor, his companion Jo Grant, and arch-enemy The Master.
I am a huge fan of Alastair Reynolds (even though I wasn’t thrilled with his last book) and have recently started on Dr. Who. So, needless to say, I am very excited about this. Reynolds promises more information to come over the next year.
Century Rain by Alastair Reynolds
Century Rain is my favorire Alastair Reynolds book. It combines a noirish mystery with a science fiction mystery and uses technology to link them together. In my Terminal World review, I mentioned that this was my favorite Reynolds book and I wanted to revisit it, mainly to get the bad taste of Terminal World out of my brain. This is truly Alastair Reynold’s finest novel.
Terminal World by Alastair Reynolds
Terminal World is the new book by Alastair Reynolds. I’ve been a huge fan of Reynolds since I picked up Revelation Space at a used book store a few years ago. It was the first of several book in the same universe that are not directly linked together. He’s also written a few books outside that universe, including this one. My favorite Reynold’s book is Century Rain, which ties together a science fiction mystery with a noir mystery book. So, it was with great joy that I picked up his latest book. Unfortunately I put it down early disappointed and I don’t really know why.
