Richard Kadrey has made quite an impression with his Sandman Slim series of books. The main character is acerbic, violent, dark and yet heroic. His latest adventure in Kill City Blues shows our hero in a more laid back setting than when he was the latest Lucifer. The latest book isn’t as plot heavy as previous stories, but Kadrey makes up for it with a lot of characterization and keeps the reader invested in the story despite the slower plot. Let’s check it out.

Devil Said Bang by Richard Kadrey
We’re back for the fourth installment of the Sandman Slim series. When we last left our hero, he was literally stuck in Hell. The good news was that he was in charge, the bad news was that he didn’t know enough about the Devil’s powers to get out. So we start off in Devil Said Bang in Hell and go forward from there. James (Sandman Slim) Stark is a wonderful protagonist and Kadrey does enough with Stark and his supporting characters to keep things fresh. So, let’s see what’s going on in the latest book.

Aloha From Hell by Richard Kadrey
Everyone’s favorite chain-smoking abomination is back and this time Sandman Slim might be in over his head. Richard Kadrey’s latest installment in the Sandman Slim saga, Aloha From Hell, is the best one yet. Kadrey picks up a lot of the open plot points (including having to finally deal with Mason) and ends it in a logical (if not completely satisfactory) manner. So, let’s see what’ going on.
Undead Week: Kill the Dead by Richard Kadrey
Richard Kadrey’s Sandman Slim (my review) was a fun over the top B-movie of a book about a guy who came back from hell to settle the score with his friends who put him there. Kadrey has created a fun over-the-top superhero of an undead villain. James Stark has angelic ancestry and demonic powers. His reflexes strength and healing are pretty much off the charts. And he’s back for another adventure in Kill the Dead. This time, with his revenge shtick done, he has new assignments working for the big baddies, the TSA and Lucifer. And what happens when zombies start coming out of the woodwork?
Sandman Slim sequels
Richard Kadry, author of Sandman Slim (my review) and it’s sequel Kill the Dead (on my list to read soon), has signed on to write a few more sequels:
Richard Kadrey’s Sandman Slim series will continue with a second trilogy after the third book, Aloha From Hell, comes out. And Kadrey’s new deal with the newly global Harper Voyager will get his books into the U.K. as well.
Sandman Slim by Richard Kadrey
Sandman Slim by Richard Kadrey is a fun ride. It’s about a man who goes to Hell and back (literally) with a vengeance for the people who sent him there. William Gibson is quoted on as calling it “The best B movie I’ve read in at least twenty years” and I’m not sure that I could describe it better. It’s a paranormal(ish) book that has more in common with noir movies than Twilight.
