I really want to like Caprica. It has an interesting premise, good actors and some wonderful characters. But when they spend time on uninteresting characters who have storylines that don’t make sense, it makes it difficult to keep watching. But there is a lot of promise that the show needs to capitalize on before it’s another failed show. Let’s take a review of the show now that it’s reached it’s mid-season break.

Swamp Thing Part 3: Post Alan Moore
In the mid 80’s, over a series of 45 issues, Alan Moore redefined Swamp Thing as well as the comic book series. When he decided to leave the book, what would happen to the character as well as the book. Swamp Thing actually enjoyed a brief rise due to a new movie, a TV series, a short animated series as well as the continuing comic book series. How long did it last?
Summer Glau news
After roles in Firefly, 4400, The Sarah Connor Chroniclesand Dollhouse, Summer Glau will be branching out to star in a Lifetime movie Deadly Honeymoon. This promises to be a big change from previous, mostly science-fiction roles. And she lined up a role after that as well. She’ll play an investigative blogger on the upcoming TV show The Cape
Superhero TV shows
As Heroesand Smallville are reaching the end of their runs, there isn’t a lot of superhero’s to be found on TV. At least not non-animated super heroes. But England has some new superhero shows and the US is getting a few new ones as well. Let’s take a look at these.
Catching up with TV Shows
Let’s catch up on some of the science fiction(ish) TV shows I’ve been watching this season. I’ve mentioned three before, but we can talk about a couple others as well. It appears that some new science fiction shows will be coming up in the next season, so we’ll have replacements for the ones I’ve stopped watching.
Survivors on BBC America Review
Survivors is a remake of a mid-70s BBC show of the same name currently being shown on BBC America. The 2-hour pilot episode introduces us to the characters, kills off 99% of the world and sets the scene for the rest of the series. There have been a bunch of post-apocalyptic series that were influenced by the original show (The Stand, 28 Days Later and Jericho). And the creator of the original series, Terry Nation wrote a book based off the original series that is a slightly different version of the story. That book is the basis for the new show.

Checking in after 3 epidsodes of Spartacus and Caprica
Now that I’ve had a change to see 3 episodes of both Spartacus: Blood and Sand and Caprica, I thought I’d give an update on how the shows are. My initial review of Spartacus was less than complementary, while I gave a tentative thumbs up to Caprica. Have my opinions changed after a few more episodes.
Spartacus: Blood and Sand review (Spoilers inside)
“I am Spartacus” is the memorable scene from the 1960 Stanley Kubrick film. Spartacus is a Roman slave turned gladiator who escapes and leads a slave rebellion across Southern Italy for 2+ years. After the success of 300, based off the Frank Miller book of the same name, the interest in historical movies (especially ones that can show a lot of skin and violence) has increased. HBO had Rome, Clash of the Titansis being remade and Spartacus: Blood and Sand is the new Starz series.
Caprica Review
Caprica, a prequel to Battle Star Galactica, made it’s preview on Syfy Channel last night. It appeared on DVD a few months ago in an unrated version, with the cleaned up version showing on Cable to start season 1. And since I never watched BSG (well this version, I did watch the original 70s version), I was unsure how difficult it would be to jump in. The good news was that it wasn’t too difficult, but I’m sure I’m missing some information on how it ties in BSG.
Human Target TV review
The comics based HumanTarget TV show starring Mark Valley as Christopher Chance (the Human Target), Chi McBride and Jackie Earle Haley (from Watchmen) is a dumb, action show with a lot of big action scenes and a little bit of plot. It’s not quite up to the level of Burn Notice, but it’s not horrible. Mark Valley and Chi McBride do a good job as a pair of guys who work to protect people that the police can’t or won’t. But the show is stolen by Jackie Earle Haley as the ex-con, ex-hacker who works for Chance.
